About Us
First United Methodist Church
Our Legacy:
First United Methodist Church was started by a handful of early Wichitans meeting for prayer and Bible Study in the upper floor of a Livery Stable in May of 1870, a few months before Wichita was officially a town! Several years later we moved to the 300 block of Broadway and have been here ever since. Over the years our campus has grown and changed as the congregation and the city has grown and changed. But through it all we have tried to shine the bright light of God's love to Wichita and beyond.
Our Core Values:
We are followers of Jesus who want our community to be connected, authentic, historic, and faithful.
Our Beliefs:
Proudly a United Methodist Congregation, we ascribe to both the Articles of Religion and the Social Principles found in the United Methodist Book of Discipline.
Our Structure:
We are governed by a Leadership Board, elected each year by the church charge conference. We are a part of the South Central District of the Great Plains Annual Conference, which is led by Bishop David Wilson.
